Same Same But Different
 SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT

A journey from the heart of darkness to the heart of lightness. It was just one night after the club. It became tender love. And then suddenly a matter of survival.

Same Same But Different tells the unusual, modern love story of Sreykeo, a 21 year old bar girl in Phnom Penh and Ben, a young German student travelling to Cambodia on a post graduation summer trip. When Ben returns home to Germany he discovers that Sreykeo is sick and he takes on the responsibility to save her. Along the way he discovers a world where not everyone is dealt the same cards and where motivations are not always pure.

Based on the true story of Benjamin Pruefer and Sreykeo Solvan, the film stars David Kross (The Reader) and Thai actress Apinya Sakuljaroensuk.

Detlev Buck was born in 1962 in Bad Segeberg and made his fame as an actor, director and screenwriter at the tender age of 22. Following high school and alternative military service, he made the short film Time to Knock Off (Erst die Arbeit und dann...?), which quickly became a cult classic. His first feature as a director was Rabbit Fever (Karniggels), which won the Bavarian Film Prize. This was followed by 1933’s No More Mr. Nice Guy (Wir koennen auch anders), which garnered an honorable mention at the Berlin Film Festival and won two German Film Awards. His next film, Jailbirds (Maennerpension), which he directed and starred in, made stars of the two female leads, Heike Makatsch and Marie Baeumer. In 2004, he was awarded the German Film Award as Best Supporting Actor for his role in Berlin Blues (Herr Lehmann), directed by Leander Haussmann. His other works as a director are: Tough Enough (Knallhart), Hands Off Mississippi (Haende weg von Mississippi), both of which won German Film Awards in several categories, and Same Same But Different.
